Rev. James T. Queen

Reverend James Queen

10/17/1939 – 10/17/2025

Ordination to the Priesthood: 05/21/1966 for the Diocese of Syracuse, NY

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father James Queen who died on his 86th birthday.

At age 17, Father Queen had already been accepted to Manhattan College in New York when he began thinking about the priesthood. After returning home from a senior retreat, he met with his pastor who encouraged  him to attend seminary to discern his calling. He said that was the best decision he made.

After Ordination to the Priesthood, he taught high school religion classes and served in various parishes throughout the Diocese of Syracuse, New York. He also served on the diocesan pastoral council, as an advocate for the clergy and often a mentor for those who had new assignments. He retired and arrived in the Diocese of Orlando in December 2003. Even in retirement he remained active serving the parishioners of St. Brendan Catholic Church, Ormond Beach. He brought students of Father Lopez Catholic High School, Daytona Beach the grace of God’s forgiveness through the Sacrament of Penance.

On the fiftieth anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood, he offered, “Some of my best moments were teaching religion to high school students. They kept me young, and we had a lot of fun talking about our faith.”

May the angels lead Father Queen into Paradise as we celebrate his new birth of eternal life.

Parish Children’s Choir

The St. Brendan’s Parish Children’s Choir is open to ALL Children of the Parish and School from grades 3-8They will prepare music to be sung approximately one Sunday a month, having 3-4 rehearsals to prepare.   Rehearsals will be in the Church on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 p.m.– 3:15 p.m. beginning on Wednesday August 20thA complete calendar of rehearsals and masses would be given out  via email to the parents.  Singing in the Children’s Choir is a wonderful way for children to serve in the church!  They will develop their vocal skills as well as build their confidence, but most importantly they will help lead the church in song!

The St. Brendan’s School Choir is open to all students enrolled in St Brendan School in grades 3-8The School choir sings at the weekly School mass at 8:30 a.m. each Wednesday morning and on Holy Days.  Rehearsal is the day before, (Tuesday) during the lunch hour for a brief time.  Since these students have a very limited time to prepare for the Wednesday mass music, they must be at least in third grade.  It is our desire this year, to increase the choral participation of our Middle school students, so we are hoping to have alternating choirs singing each week: Grades 3-5, and grades 6-8.  Please have your children consider this important School activity!

To enroll your child in either (or both choirs) please contact Mrs. Elizabeth Jennings at ejennings@stbrendanchurchormond.org
